Upgrade - Questions and Answers!

Q. What do you need to have to make this possible? Can I upgrade my Gateway, IBM, Compaq, HP or Dell? Can you upgrade my laptop computer?

A. You will preferably need to have a video card, a 56K modem, a CD-ROM drive, a 1.44 floppy drive and a hard drive with at least 4+ gigabyte capacity for this to be a worthwhile upgrade! We can typically upgrade just about ANY PC (no MAC’s - sorry!). If you have one of the systems listed above, you may just need a few more parts to complete the upgrade. Unfortunately, we cannot upgrade laptops with this upgrade package.

Q. What about my old parts- that is my old mainboard and RAM and such? Do I get to keep my old parts?

A. No. ( most of the time ). The AMD ATHLON_XP CPU’s require very specific and good quality RAM that most mfg. cannot live up to - that is why we include 256MEG of DDR400 RAM in the upgrade package. We normally auction off your old parts to defray the labor cost incurred during the upgrade process. If you wish to keep your old parts, you may certainly do so, but we will then charge an additional $75.00 labor fee.

Q. What kind of slots are on the mainboard and how much room is there in the tower?

A. The standard mainboard has 1 - AGP and 5 - PCI slots. Therefore, do keep in mind that you may have to buy some new components if your modem or other cards are the old ISA style interface or if you have integrated components in your old computer! The upgrade package includes a sweet and spacious new case with a 350watt power supply and 10 expansion bays. (4 external 5 1/4" plus 2 external 3 1/2" and 4 internal 3 1/2") Normally your CD uses a large external bay, your floppy a small external bay and the hard drive a small internal bay, which still leaves you lots of room for future growth and expansion!

Q. What about my current software and programs that are on my system now? I have tons of letters and emails etc.? What will happen to all of them? Do you back them up for me? Can I just restore them afterwards?

A. We do unfortunately have to FORMAT your hard drive with this upgrade. As a result:

ALL YOUR SOFTWARE ON YOUR SYSTEM WILL BE ERASED!

In other words, it is up to you to save ANY data you want to retain. We will reload you current version of WINDOWS (i.e. 95,98,NT or XP) from scratch. WE DO NOT SUPPORT WINDOWS ME. NO OTHER SOFTWARE RELOADING OR BACKUPS ARE INCLUDED WITH THIS UPGRADE PACKAGE! This does, however, include security updating and all your software drivers for your old components so they will be up-to-date! Any other software programs and applications will need to be reinstalled by you - from their original disks, once you get the system back to your home or office!
